Carmichaels chamber finalizes Halloween parade plans
CARMICHAELS – The Carmichaels Chamber of Commerce met Oct. 1 in the Greene Academy and finalized plans for the annual Halloween parade for area children. I The parade will be held Sunday, Oct. 27, at 2 p.m. Mummers are to assemble at the Yoskovich Funeral Home parking lot on South Market Street at 1:30 p.m.
The parade will be led to the town square by the Carmichaels Area High School band, and master of ceremonies will be Bill Groves.
Prizes will be awarded in two age groups, infant to 6 years and 7 to 12, and categories are prettiest, ugliest, most original and judge’s choice. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place in each category. The chamber will distribute 400 treats to the children.
The chamber directors approved a $1,000 donation to the Cumberland Township Parks and Recreation board toward the purchase of new playground equipment for Wana B Park; a $300 donation to Greene Academy of Art for newspaper ads for the Covered Bridge Festival; $250 to the Greene County Historical Society for the Harvest Festival; and $600 to the King Coal Association for Coal Show pottery crocks for the Coal Queen pageant candidates.
The first annual “Community Fun Day,” sponsored by Communities that Care, was termed very successful.
New businesses in town are G & H Discount, Carmichaels Floral (under new management) and The House of Wood. Also, Yingling Insurance will move from West George Street to Carmichaels Plaza on Nov. 1.
Chamber President Debbie Gideon appointed Sandy Bruce, Emil Bertugli, Joe Cybak and Sara Ruth to a committee to nominate new officers.
Community events are as follows: Carmichaels Halloween parade – 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27; dedication of the restored old courthouse on East Greene Street, Waynesburg – Thursday, Oct. 17, at 11:15 a.m.; Harvest Festival, Greene County Historical Museum – Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 19 and 20.
