Harry E. Marks
Harry E. Marks, 80, of Isabella, Pa., died Friday, October 4, 2002. He was born the son of the late Edwin Samuel and Emma Cole Marks on May 2, 1922.
He graduated high school at Brownsville, Pa.
Harry was a member of First Christian Church of Republic for more than 50 years and served his Lord and Savior as a Deacon, Elder Emeritus, a Senior Group member of The Christian Men’s Fellowship and was the Church Treasurer and Financial Secretary for more than 23 years.
He served his country as a Radioman in the United States Navy for more than nine years during World War II and also the Korean Conflict. He was stationed on various Pacific Fleet Ships and saw duty in Japan, China, Midway, Guam and Hawaii. He was Honorably Discharged and then served in the naval Reserves.
Prior to and after his military service he worked as a Roofbolter for National Mines at the Isabella Mine for 44 years and until retiring in 1984. He served his fellow mine workers as Treasurer of United Mine Workers Local 6295.
He was a lifetime member of the Isabella Volunteer Fire Department and served as their Treasurer in the early 1960s.
He was also a member of American Legion Post 590 in Republic.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lillian Hager Marks; three sons: Harry E. Marks Jr. of Isabella, Daniel R. Marks of Brier Hill, Pa., and Kenneth L. Marks and his wife, Terry, of New Salem, Pa.; and seven grandchildren: Shawn E. Marks and his wife Carol, Dylan J. Marks, Kenneth M. Marks, Jennifer J. Marks, Megan L. Marks, Shawn Z. Marks, Elizabeth M. Marks.
He is also survived by a large loving family of sisters and brothers: Grace Cseko of Bedford, Pa., Doris Swaney and her husband, Chuck, of Hiller, Pa., Betty Angelo of Thompson, Pa., Ruby Baker of Blainesburg, Pa., Lena VanVoorhis of Beallsville, Pa., Stanley Marks and his wife Lois, of Penncraft, Pa., Margaret Sheets and her husband, Wesley, of California, Pa., Twila Hall and her husband, Dalton, of Uniontown, Pa., and Larry Marks and his wife, Kathy, of Farmington, Pa.
His love for life came from God, family, friends, and fishing!
Friends will be received in the DEARTH FUNERAL HOME, New Salem, Pa., today from 2 to 9 p.m.
Visitation continues Monday, October 7, in First Christian Church of Republic from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Services will begin at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Thomas N. Logston officiating.
Interment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, where Military Honors will be accorded by New Salem American Legion Post 753.
