WAYNESBURG – Waynesburg College President Timothy R. Thyreen has been named chairman of the Pennsylvania Association of Colleges and Universities. The appointment, announced at the 105th PACU annual meeting in September at the Hotel Hershey, is for a one-year term. Thyreen was the vice chairman/secretary-treasurer of the PACU board of directors before accepting the chairman position

“President Thyreen’s record of accomplishment, coupled with his vision and ability to get things done, will ensure that PACU continues to promote higher education and enrich the citizens of Pennsylvania,” said Peter Balcziunas, PACU executive director. “Tim is leading an organization that is well-prepared to work effectively with the next governor to build a promising future for the commonwealth. It is a great match.”

Thyreen said he is looking forward to working on common issues related to higher education.

“PACU occupies a unique position because it includes membership from all institutional sectors of the higher education industry. Considering this, we play a vital role in ensuring that Pennsylvanians are fully informed of the opportunities in front of them, and this, in turn, promotes spirited and nurturing relationships among the institutions involved,” he said.

Thyreen has long been active in organizations.

Among his leadership roles, he is chairman of the Pennsylvania Campus Compact, past chairman and current member of the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Pennsylvania, a member of the Bonner Scholar President’s Advisory Board and past chairman of the Foundation of Independent Colleges.

PACU, the nation’s oldest state-based organization devoted to higher education, is a voluntary association of 109 institutions drawn from all sectors of the Pennsylvania higher education community, including colleges and universities that are independent/private, state owned or state related, and community colleges.
