Fayette County Junior Achievement kicks off fundraising campaign
Fayette County Junior Achievement recently kicked off its fundraising campaign for the 2002-2003 by accepting a $6,700 donation from the Fayette Enterprise Community program. Gary Carter, chairperson of the Fayette County Junior Achievement Advisory Board, said Fayette County Sheriff Gary D. Brownfield will be the honorary chairman of the campaign. The goal is $35,000.
Brownfield said he accepted the post because of his strong belief in the Junior Achievement program, which is to educate and inspire young people to value free enterprise, business, and economics to improve the quality of their lives.
“I am both proud and honored to be this year’s Honorary Chairperson. As much as today’s youth will be tomorrow’s leaders, I feel we should do everything we can to help them achieve their goals. I would like to see today’s youth shoot for the moon as the worst they could do is land among the stars,’ said Brownfield.
FEC’s grant will help get the program started in 17 new elementary classes and to sustain five middle and high school programs in Fayette County.
Junior Achievement of Southwest Pennsylvania reached over 75,300 students, ranging in grade levels from Kindergarten through 12th grade last year. Locally, officials said the Fayette County District of Junior Achievement will reach close to 1,500 students during the 2002-03 school year.
