Gilbert R. Dunaway
Gilbert R. “Gil” Dunaway, 74, of Dunbar Township (Lemont Furnace), Pa., died Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, in Uniontown Hospital. He was born March 11, 1928, in Bobtown, son of the late Eugene and Mildred Shipley Dunaway.
He was a retired controlroom foreman with 42 years of service with Allegheny Power.
He was a graduate of North Union High School, Class of 1946, a member of St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, Point Marion Eagles, Knights of Columbus, Dunbar Historical Society, Citizens Independent Slovak Club of Connellsville, and Connellsville Elks.
He was an avid sportsman and loved to travel.
Surviving are his wife, Janice Hudock Dunaway; children, Lana Patishnock and husband, Mike of Connellsville, Stephanie “Dee Dee” Strimel and husband, Ralph of Point Marion, Robert Dunaway and wife, Kelly of Harrisburg, and James Dunaway and wife, Jennifer of Murrieta, Calif.; brothers and sisters, Betty Smitley and husband, Charles of Clearwater, Fla., Raymond Dunaway and wife, Marge of Mount Independence, Elinor “Jane” Dunaway of Connellsville, and Harold “Sonny” Dunaway and wife, Betty of Dunbar; grandchildren, Amy Williams, Bethany Strong, Michael Patishnock, Stephen Patishnock, Eric Strimel, Rachel Strimel, Benjamin Strimel, Ryan Dunaway, Jonathan Dunaway, Ashleigh Dunaway, Rhianna Dunaway and Alexandra Dunaway; a great-grandchild, Tyler Strong; stepchildren, Todd, Jack, Kathleen, Joel and Robert Hudock; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane Carleen George Dunaway in 1980; and brothers, Robert, Richard and George Dunaway.
Friends will be received in the BURHANS-CROUSE FUNERAL HOME, 28 Connellsville St., Dunbar, today from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m., and Thursday until 9:30 a.m., when morning prayers will be said, followed by a Mass of Christian burial in St. Aloysius R.C. Church at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Fr. J. Edward McCullough as celebrant. The rosary will be recited in the funeral home today at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Association.
