Masontown council approves liquor license transfer for marina
MASONTOWN – Borough council Tuesday gave final approval to transfer a liquor license into the borough for a new marina and bar along the Monongahela River. The establishment’s owner, Geno Tiberi, is working to meet requirements for water and sewer service, and council unanimously approved the license transfer for the business.
Council also announced that a new school committee has been formed to help organize and coordinate efforts to establish the Power Plant Youth Center in the old Masontown Elementary School.
Last month, Barbara Lewis, director for the center, requested the borough’s help in assessing the feasibility of acquiring the building to house the center.
Council President Carole Daniels said council members Tom Loukota, Harry Lee and Sheilah McGalla will comprise the committee, with Loukota serving as chairman.
Daniels said the panel will meet with Lewis before she goes before the advisory board Oct. 20.
The council also conducted the following business:
– Tabled bids for work on various water lines in the borough due to large discrepancies in the amounts estimated by the bidding contractors.
– Announced that the Halloween parade will be held Oct. 19 at 1 p.m., beginning at the Masontown Fire Hall.
