Sewer board hears complaints about odor at pump station
REDSTONE TWP. – Redstone Township Sewer Authority officials are attempting to solve an odor problem at their Merrittstown pump station. Resident Ozzie Fajger complained to the authority at last month’s meeting about an odor coming from the station.
“We are in the process of putting a water-tight seal on the manhole outside the pump station,” said Chairman Dwayne Thomas. “The cost of the new casting and the seal is $345 plus installation. We’re going to try that and see what happens.”
Resident John Stanislaw questioned the authority about whether the proposed sewerage project would reach his Roderick Road property, because he has plans to develop it.
Engineer Don Reho responded, saying that “usually whatever is in the boundary does get served.” However, Reho said the authority is not yet sure if the lines will extend to the area in question.
“It does go up Roderick Road to an extent,” said Thomas. “But I am not sure how far because we are still in the preliminary stages.”
Stanislaw was also concerned that if a pump was needed in that area, residents there could have the same odor problem as in Merrittstown.
The authority was also unsure if a pump would be necessary.
“We can’t say anything definite until it’s on a map and in design,” said Thomas. “When we go into design, we can tell you more then. Right now, we only have an outline of the area that will be encompassed.”
