Man convicted Suspect acquitted

Fayette County jurors acquitted a Connellsville man of sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl in March 2000.

Ronald A. Means, 32, was charged with indecent assault, indecent exposure and corruption of minors for abusing a child on March 7.

State police alleged he assaulted the child on her mother’s bed and then had the girl retrieve a washcloth afterwards so he could clean himself.

According to testimony from Means’ preliminary hearing, the girl told her mother about the assault the next day, and her mother called police.

The girl also admitted at the preliminary hearing that she was jealous of the relationship between Means and her mother.

Means, represented at trial by attorney Benita Sumey, denied assaulting the girl.

Assistant District Attorney Robert E. Grimm prosecuted the case before Judge Ralph C. Warman.
