Crime Stoppers Warrant issued

Fayette County Crime Stoppers is seeking information on the whereabouts of Charlie Allen Smith, who is wanted for two assaults.

An arrest warrant for Smith was issued on Saturday by District Justice Rick Vernon. Smith is also wanted in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, for felonious assault and kidnapping.

Police said Smith is a black male who uses the street name of Mitch. His birthdate is April 16, 1966, and he also uses the birthdays of Dec. 7, 1970, and Dec. 7, 1965. His last known address is 204 E. Main St., Uniontown, and his Social Security number is 419-04-8908.

Smith was born in Alabama and is 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs 170 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. On his right arm he has a dolphin or shark tattoo and the name “Joshua Malik.” He also has a large scar on his stomach from a gunshot wound.

He is known to associate with William “Wee Wee” Smith of Uniontown and may also be related to the Delbridge and Efford families in the Uniontown area and may use those last names if stopped.

Smith is charged in the Oct. 4 beating of his ex-girlfriend, whom he also assaulted on Sept. 13 in the city of Uniontown. He is facing charges of four counts of aggravated assault; simple assault and recklessly endangering another person; and one count each of harassment and stalking, burglary, intimidation of witnesses or victims, retaliation against witnesses or victims and criminal mischief.

Point Marion

Quad stolen

State police are investigating an incident in which a 1987 Honda 250X quad was stolen from a home between 2 and 9 p.m. Oct. 3.

The owner, John Ray Hughes, 19, of Point Marion and several friends saw the quad and chased it through Point Marion at 9 p.m. Police said the chase ended when the quad crossed the bridge on Route 88 into Greene County and crashed into a guardrail. The thief ran into the woods.

Corruption of minors

State police are investigating an incident in which a New Salem woman allegedly coerced or encouraged a juvenile to steal items for her at Wal-Mart shopping center between noon and 4 p.m. on Sept. 6.

Cumberland Twp.

Public drunkenness

Thomas J. Demchek of Crucible was cited for public drunkenness after he allegedly caused a disturbance on East Fourth Street in Crucible at 1:32 p.m. Thursday, state police at Waynesburg said.

Police said Demchek was taken to the Greene County Prison following the incident.

Connellsville Twp.

Theft

A dog box was reportedly taken from a yard on Miner Drive between 8:30 p.m. Monday and 11 a.m. Tuesday, state police said.

The owner is Debra Miner, 47, of Connellsville.

Criminal mischief

Three juvenile males allegedly damaged seven vehicles at JPR III Auto Repair on Route 201 in Vanderbilt sometime between 7:45 a.m. Sept. 3 and 8:40 a.m. Sept. 4, state police said.

The three juveniles, a 12-year-old from Dickerson Run, a 10-year-old from Dickerson Run and an 11-year-old from Vanderbilt, allegedly caused $6,633.61 in damage to the vehicles. Police said they allegedly used rocks while at a school bus stop. The case has been turned over to juvenile probation.

Simple assault

Robert Joseph Collins, 36, of Connellsville was charged with simple assault for an incident at a home at 7 p.m. Sunday, state police said.

Collins allegedly struck Tina M. Stockman, 37, of Connellsville on the head and jaw and then grabbed her neck following an argument. Collins was arraigned before District Justice Wendy Dennis and released on $2,500 unsecured bond.

Burglary

A television, VCR and jewelry box containing foreign coins were taken from a home between 7:55 a.m. and 3:25 p.m. Sept. 30, state police said.

Jeanne Marie Lane, 34, of Republic owns the property, valued at $400.

Belle Vernon

Monthly report

Sgt. Richard D. Gardner, acting station commander of the Belle Vernon barracks of the state police, has released the public information statistical report for September.

In crime activity, 117 offenses were reported, 115 of which were founded. Fifty-two offenses were cleared and police made 89 criminal arrests. Four vehicles were recovered and the value of recovered property, including vehicles, was $12,500.

In patrol activity, police responded to 45 accident, including eight hit-and-run accidents. There were 34 injuries in accidents and police issued 521 traffic citations; 25 DUI citations and 361 warning notices. Officers assisted 46 motorists and responded to 487 other incidents for a total of 695 incidents.

Fayette County

Monthly report

Fayette County Sheriff Gary D. Brownfield Sr. has released the monthly statistical report for September.

During the month, the office received 425 requests for services. The breakdown is as follows: 64 complaints and summons; 50 landlord/tenant order for possessions; 42 protection from abuse cases; 28 mortgage foreclosure complaints; 25 foreign writ services; nine personal property executions; two writs of possessions; 201 gun permits processed; three real estate sales, services and postings; six miscellaneous services; four bench warrants served; 33 prisoners transported; 2,757 miles traveled for prisoner transport; 160 hours utilized for courthouse security; 160 hours utilized for 911 center security; 30 hours utilized for miscellaneous security; 49 hours for programs involving community relations.

A total of $17,861.81 was forwarded to Fayette County and $1,122.52 was not reimbursed to the county.

Waynesburg

Monthly report

The Waynesburg barracks of the state police has released the statistical information for the third quarter of 2002.

During the quarter, officers responded to 1,781 incidents, including 513 criminal incidents; 156 accidents; 117 motorist assists and 995 other incidents.

Police said aggressive patrols will continue in the high accident and incident areas throughout Greene County. As an effort to reduce the number of accidents and to encourage safe driving, police said special patrol enforcement details will be used in the areas of state routes 21 and 88 and Interstate 79.

Criminal mischief

Three window screens and two windows were damaged at a home on Millertown Road between 7 a.m. Sept. 14 and 4 p.m. Tuesday, state police said.

The owner is Helen Marlene Hamm of Normalville. The screens sustained holes and the windows sustained scrapes.

Vehicle stolen

A blue 1991 Toyota Camry was taken from an alley beside 125 S. Mount Vernon Ave. Monday morning, city police said.

Clara Yarborough told police she parked in the alley at 7:15 a.m. to unload groceries and when she came back out the vehicle was gone. The license plate number is DCN8347. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 430-2929.

Retail theft

Someone in a white RV towing a trailer with a red motorcycle and red car pumped $85.32 in gasoline into the vehicle and drove off without paying from Sweet Pea’s at the intersection of routes 40 and 166 at 3:10 p.m. Tuesday, state police said.

The suspect is a white male, between 50 and 60 years old, between 5 feet 8 inches and 6 feet tall and weighing between 180 and 200 pounds with gray hair. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-439-7111.

Identity theft

City police are investigating an incident in which someone opened a Fingerhut account in the name of Agnes L. Casteel of West Coffey Street and charged $1,624.49 in merchandise.

Citation issued

James Michael Parker of Uniontown was cited for violating the fireworks ordinance for an incident that occurred at 3:32 p.m. Monday, city police said.

Parker allegedly shot an air pistol into the air at a location on North Gallatin Avenue.

Wallet taken

Anna Quaranto of West Wine Street reported to city police at 9:40 a.m. Monday that her wallet was taken from her purse.

Vehicle entered

Jane R. Addis of West Main Street reported to city police at 3:28 p.m. Monday that someone entered her vehicle while it was in the rear lot of the Mount Vernon Towers.

The glove compartment was entered but nothing was taken, police said.

Two cited

Two Uniontown men were cited following an incident near Collins Avenue and Austin Street at 2 a.m. Tuesday, city police said.

Virdell Banks, 18, was cited for disorderly conduct and Robert Charles Santore, 19, was cited for underage drinking.

A juvenile female was cited for violation of the curfew ordinance after she was discovered on a park bench on Morgantown Street at 11:58 p.m. Monday, city police said.

Elizabeth Monaghan of Reppert Boulevard reported to city police at 1:42 a.m. Tuesday that someone known to her took $80 from her home.

Three-vehicle accident

City police responded to a three-vehicle accident at the intersection of Connellsville Street and Mifflin Avenue at 8:33 p.m. Tuesday.

One person was injured and taken to Uniontown Hospital for treatment. Additional information was unavailable.

Joseph Strut of Uniontown reported to city police at 4:49 p.m. Tuesday that he was robbed at the Uniontown Library. No other information was available.

Woman not injured

Township police said Charlotta Shartzer, 48, of Farmington was not injured in a one-vehicle accident on Route 40 in front of Washington Tavern, Fort Necessity, at 11:25 a.m. Wednesday.

Monthly report

Capt. Roger N. Waters of state police Troop B, Washington, said officers responded to 1,123 calls in September, of which 1,108 were founded and 564 cleared, and made 629 criminal arrests. Officers also investigated nine arsons and recovered 23 vehicles and other properties for a combined value of $128,643.

During this period, officers also investigated 5,122 patrol incidents, including 128 DUI arrests, 423 motorist assists, 3,040 other incidents and 536 accidents. Of the accidents, 60 were hit-and-run, four people died and 198 suffered injuries. Officers issued 3,253 citations and 1,684 warnings.

East Bethlehem Twp.

Death investigated

Washington County Coroner Tim Warco said Wednesday that the cause of death of a North Miami, Fla., man killed Sunday on Route 88 is pending an autopsy and police investigation.

Warco initially had ruled Sunday that William John Gutosky, 28, had died from blunt force trauma to the head as the result of an accident.

Gutosky was found by a passing motorist lying along the southbound lane of Route 88 about 250 yards north of Vestaburg Road. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:15 a.m., but authorities said he died between 1 and 7 a.m. In an initial release, Warco said Gutosky died after falling over an embankment while walking along a woodland path. Gutosky was in the area to attend a family wedding.

State police at Washington are investigating.
