Etalka R. (Petyak) Samek-Valentine, age 78, of Somerset, Pa., and formerly of Uniontown, Pa., passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2002, in Somerset Hospital, Somerset, Pa. She was born March 1, 1924, in Perryopolis, Pa., the daughter of the late Michael and Susan (Yuhasz) Petyak.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, John E. Samek, and her second husband, Howard O. Valentine Sr., a brother, Ernest Petyak, and a sister, Dorothy M. Rutherford.

Etalka was a graduate of the former Perry Township High School.

She was a member of St. John The Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church in Uniontown.

She is survived by her children: Ronald I. Samek and wife, Gina, of Owasso, Michigan, Shawn H. McConville and husband, Cletus, of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Howard O. Valentine Jr. and wife, Nancy, of Friedens, Pa.; five granddaughters; three grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the HAKY FUNERAL HOMES INC., A Dignity Memorial Provider, 139 West Fayette Street, Uniontown, Pa., today, October 14, until 10:30 a.m. when a Panachida Service will be held.

Divine Liturgy follows at 11 a.m. in St. John The Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, East Main Street, Uniontown, with Rev. Fr. Thomas J. Wesdock as Celebrant.

Interment will follow in Mount St. Macrina Cemetery, Uniontown.

Parastas was held in the Funeral Home Sunday at 7 p.m.

Visitation was also held Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
