Building fire

State police fire marshals are investigating to determine the cause of a fire that damaged a vacant apartment building at 9294 Collins Ave. Sunday afternoon. Assistant Uniontown fire chief Myron Nypaver said the fire started in the basement of the two-story eight-unit brick structure and spread into the walls of the first floor. Hopwood and North Union Township volunteer fire departments assisted.

Theft investigated

Unknown persons took approximately $600 in electronic merchandise from the Ames Department Store in Fayette Plaza, Route 51, 11:30 a.m. Sept. 26, state police in Uniontown said. The incident is under investigation.

Camper stolen

A 1973 LTD camper trailer owned by William Rutherford III of Connellsville was stolen from Nickmann’s Plaza lot between 9:30 and 11 p.m. Saturday. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call state police in Uniontown at 724-439-7111.

Driver, passenger flee

Crystal Smith, 22, of Republic struck a guiderail and an embankment along Route 166 and then rolled over at 2:20 a.m. Sunday, state police said. She and her passenger Cathy Benucci, 23, of Adah then fled on foot.

North Union Twp.

One-car accident

Steven E. Grubbs of Dunbar struck a guardrail at the intersection of Bitner and Bute roads 1:40 a.m. Sunday, fled the scene and later reported the accident, state police said.

Burglary reported

State police in Belle Vernon said cigarettes, lottery tickets and cash were stolen in a burglary at the Dairy Store at 413 Railroad St. between 1:30 and 8:50 a.m. Sunday.

Handgun stolen

City police said Shanna Ross reported the theft of a .38-caliber handgun from her 130 Pershing Court home at 10:45 a.m. Sunday. She told officers that the gun belonged to her deceased father and she had it for about two weeks.

Three vehicles damaged

City police said Val Laub of Belmont Circle, Uniontown, reported 6:40 a.m. Sunday that the rear windows on two vehicles and an outside mirror on a third vehicle were broken. Laub told police he discovered the damage in the morning. Police said numerous large rocks were found in the area.

Windows broken

City police said a rock was thrown through the rear window and hit the front windshield on a truck parked at 52 Johnson Ave. owned by Charles Graner at 8 p.m. Sunday.

Man cited

City police filed a harassment citation against Vladimir Stukov, 31, of 397 E. Main St., Uniontown, for allegedly striking Carol Stukov in a room at the Mount Vernon Inn 10 p.m. Saturday.

Van window broken

State police said a rear window on a minivan owned by Georgetta Mae Park of Detroit, Mich., was shattered between 1:15 and 3:15 p.m. Saturday when it was parked along Cottage Avenue. Police noted that Park reported that a stray shot from near by hunters might have caused the damage.

Hit-and-run reported

State police said the unknown driver of a red Ford Probe sideswiped a truck owned by Robert K. Landman of Merrittstown 3:30 a.m. Sunday when it was parked along New Salem Road in Tower Hill 1.

Two-vehicle accident

State police said Lois Vankirk of West Newton rear-ended Stephen Hela of Perryopolis at 5:35 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Brownsville and Gillespie roads. Hela suffered a minor injury.

City police noticed a broken window at Kolencik’s Gulf station on Pittsburgh Street while on patrol 11:50 p.m. Sunday.

Apartment window broken

City police said Corinna Burnworth reported Sunday at 12:45 a.m. that a rock was thrown through the window of her 91 S. Mount Vernon Avenue apartment.

Car damaged

City police said Michael Lemansky of Braddock Avenue reported that the driver’s side window on his car was damaged by pumpkins thrown by juveniles. Police said several smashed pumpkins were in the street.

Theft reported

State police said Tim Sager of Scottdale reported the theft a $300 Little Tykes Log Cabin Play House from in front of his Montgomery Road residence between 1 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday.

Burglary reported

State police said somebody entered Janet Dean Trees’ garage at 1200 Flatwoods Road 6:40 a.m. Sunday, but didn’t take anything.

West Brownsville

Trailer damaged

State police said somebody broke the doorframe on a trailer at 217 Adams Ave., owned by Jimmy K. Boyd of Uniontown, Saturday or Sunday.

Shed broken into

Nothing was reported stolen after somebody broke into a shed along Flatwoods Road owned by Richard Kieta of Vanderbilt overnight Sunday, state police said.

Charges filed

Police have filed charges against the following persons in unrelated incidents:

Crystal Spottedbear, 27, of North Manor, for endangering the welfare of children, after she was allegedly found to have left her two children, ages 2 and 4, at home with no supervision.

Kim Furman, 40, of North Manor for harassment after he allegedly struck an unidentified Dunbar man in the face during an incident on Oct. 1.

Elizabeth A. Longanecker, 27, of 2104 Indian Head Road, Indian Head, for harassment after she allegedly entered the residence of an unidentified Connellsville woman on Sept. 29 and struck her in the face.

Sharon K. Clowesley, 24, of 809 S. Pittsburgh St. for criminal mischief after she allegedly sprayed shaving cream on the vehicle belonging to a Connellsville woman on Oct. 4 while it was parked along South Pittsburgh Street.

Mack Tyrone Simms, 30, of 231 Moniset Ave., Donora, for carrying a firearm without a license, after he was allegedly found with a .38-cal. revolver on Sept. 30 during an incident at Gibson Terrace. Simms was arraigned on the charge and lodged in Fayette County Prison after failing to post a $10,000 percentage bond imposed by District Justice Wendy Dennis.

Samuel E. Nudo, 36, of Connellsville for harassment after he allegedly threatened an unidentified woman on Sept. 29 at an East Crawford Avenue residence.

Simple assault

Police filed charges of simple assault, harassment and unlawful restraint against Thomas J. Beal, 35, of 161 Dunbar-Ohiopyle Road after he allegedly entered a North Prospect Street residence and assaulted an unidentified woman.

Police said the woman informed officers Beal refused to allow her to leave the residence for a period of time. After gaining her release, she contacted police. Officers found Beal hiding in the bushes behind the residence.

Beal was arraigned before District Justice Ronald Haggerty and released on a $5,000 recognizance bond.
