Mead named to college’s board of trustees

2 min read

The Rev. Dr. James E. Mead, executive presbyter of the Pittsburgh Presbytery, has been named to a three-year term on the Waynesburg College board of trustees. Rev. Mead has been actively involved with Waynesburg College for the past few years, serving as the 1999 Charter Day speaker and most recently speaking at the baccalaureate service in May.

“I am eager and honored to begin my appointment as a trustee. Waynesburg College is a unique community that has much to offer the region,” said Rev. Mead. “The service learning that takes place at the college, along with service leadership opportunities and a traditional academic curriculum, provides a well-rounded environment that is crucial to success in today’s world.”

Waynesburg College President Timothy Thyreen said, “Rev. Dr. Mead has been blessed with many talents and has chosen to use those talents in ways that have touched the world. This captures the essence of a Waynesburg College education. Rev. Mead will not only be a valuable addition to our board, he will also be a person who will bring continuous guidance about our mission and our Christian roots.”

Rev. Mead also serves as a trustee of Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. He is a life member of the National Black Presbyterian Caucus and the NAACP. He is an advisory board member for Good Schools Pennsylvania, member of the Pittsburgh Interfaith Impact Network and a participant in the “Missional Presbytery” project.

“I would like to congratulate Rev. Mead on his appointment and welcome him to the Waynesburg College family,” added Waynesburg College Trustee Chairman Frederick De Palma.

Mead holds a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from California State College at Los Angeles, a master of divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary, and a doctor of ministry, focused on reformed theology, from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.

Mead was ordained in 1973 by the Presbytery of the Pacific at First Presbyterian Church of California. He and his wife, Carolyn, have two children and three grandchildren.
