Kathryn R. Shultz, 88, of Oliphant Furnace, Pa., died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002, in her residence. She was born in South Union Township, Pa., daughter of the late George C. and Jennie L. Beeson Freeman.

She was the beloved mother of Mrs. Carole Keister of Fairchance, Pa., Dr. Robert Shultz and wife, Dr. Margarita Shultz of Lancaster, Pa., and Dr. Floyd Shultz and wife, Anne Lie of Allentown, Pa. Also surviving are the following grandchildren, David Keister of Fairchance, Pa., Kim Keister-Boviera and husband, Lou of Stone Mountain, Ga., Robert Migriel Shultz of Lancaster, Pa., Carlos Shultz of Arizona, Daniel Shultz of California, Karen Shultz of Kentucky, and Christine Shultz of Vermont; great-grandchildren, Anna Marie Shultz, Dominique Shultz and Carlos Shultz; a brother, Donald Freeman of Cranberry Township, Pa.; and several nephews and nieces.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Robert Shultz; and a brother, Jesse Freeman.

She was a schoolteacher for 33 years, beginning at Shady Grove and Fairground School in Uniontown, North Union Township. Her remaining years were with the Albert Gallatin School System. She was loved by many of her students, who kept in close contact with her.

For 28 years, she supported Indian children on a reservation in Farmington, New Mexico. For ten years, she helped support Tom and Betty West, while they were Missionaries in the Amazon in Brazil, South America.

In the late 1940’s, she would take her own children to the County Home in Uniontown, to visit. She would visit other nursing homes writing letters for the patients. At Christmas time, she and her children would cover shoeboxes and fill with cookies and candy and deliver to the elderly. She was a strong Christian woman and had her Cradle Roll Certificate from the Third Presbyterian Church in Uniontown, Pa., from 1914.

Friends will be received in THE JAMES D. BARNETT FUNERAL HOME, 196 West Main St., Uniontown, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m., the hour of service, with the Rev. Russ Brown, the Rev. Edward A. Pollock Jr., and the Rev. Robert Ford officiating. Interment will be in Jacobs Lutheran Cemetery, German Township, Fayette County, Pa.
