Harris recommitted
Eric Harris, 33, of 40 Thomas St., Uniontown, was recommitted to SCI Dallas after he was ordered held for court on charges alleging that he kidnapped a mother and her three children and threatened to kill her in June 2001. According to a complaint and affidavit filed by Uniontown Police Det. Phillip Jones, Harris allegedly forced his way into Tawana Mills’ mother’s home on Carlisle Street at 12:37 a.m., assaulted her, pushed a handgun into her chest and forced her to wake up her three children.
He allegedly forced Mills and her children into her car and told her to start driving. He told her to stop in an alley off Park Avenue, ordered her out of the car, held a the gun to her chest and stomach and threatened to kill her.
They got back into the car and her directed her to drive to a Dunlap Street apartment, but he fled after Mills managed to contact her mother who called police, according to the affidavit.
Jones charged Harris with three counts of kidnapping, two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of simple assault, two counts of recklessly endangering another person, unlawful restraint, firearms not be carried without a license and two counts of burglary.
Harris was ordered held for court on all except one of the burglary charges at recent preliminary hearing before District Justice Rick Vernon.
Vernon set bail at $100,000 straight.
Jones said Harris has been in the state prison in Dallas, Pa., since he was arrested last year for violating terms of his parole for a voluntary manslaughter conviction.
