Rexford Ray Roderick
Rexford Ray Roderick, 86, of Smithfield, Pa., died Thursday evening, October 24, 2002, at his home in Smithfield. He was born October 23, 1916, the son of the now late Lyman and Cora Roderick.
He was a retired Coal Miner having been employed by J & L Steel in Bobtown. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America District 4 and the Bobtown Local Union.
Mr. Roderick was also a member of Ss. Cyril & Methodius Roman Catholic Church in Fairchance, Pa.
He was a Veteran of World War II who served with the United States Army in the European Theatre. Mr. Roderick was also a member of V.F.W. Post 47 in Uniontown, Pa.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Arlene Nussbaumer Roderick; two daughters: Cindy Frank and husband, Andy, of Smithfield and Sandra Vecchiolla and husband, Dan, of Uniontown, Pa.; three grandchildren: Danny Vecchiolla and wife Vickie, Kim Humberston and husband John, and Scott Vecchiolla and wife Debbie, all of Uniontown; four great-grandchildren: Jace, Jordan, Jared and Alison; one brother, Floyd Roderick of Whitehouse, Pa.; and one sister, Beatrice Switalski of Dillinger, Pa.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, Oliver, John, Edward and Arthur, and one sister, Ada.
Friends will be received in the JOHN F. BROWNFIELD FUNERAL HOME OF SMITHFIELD, PA., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. where a Blessing Service will be held Tuesday, October 29, at 10 a.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial follows at 10:30 a.m. in Ss. Cyril & Methodius Roman Catholic Church, Fairchance, with Rev. Fr. David Nazimek as Celebrant.
Interment will follow in Mount Moriah Cemetery. Full Military Rites will be accorded at the cemetery by V.F.W. Post 47 of Uniontown.
Visitation was also held Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.
