Health event slated Wal-Mart at 80 Matthew Drive, South Union Township, will host a “Speaking of Women’s Health Community Event,” from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The theme for the event is “Wellness for a Lifetime.” Wal-Mart supports “Speaking of Women’s Health,” a non-profit organization dedicated to educating women to make informed decisions about their health, well-being and personal safety. “Speaking of Women’s Health” is a national foundation that encourages women to explore their physical and mental vitality, inner strength, self-esteem and beauty. The public is invited to attend this free event. “Women play a vital role in society today,” a Wal-Mart spokesperson said. “At Wal-Mart, we want to make sure that the needs of women are met. ‘Speaking of Women’s Health’ is a forum that enables us to reach and empower women worldwide.” “‘Speaking of Women’s Health’ is excited to partner with Wal-Mart stores for such a great event,” said Dianne Dunkelman, founder of “Speaking of Women’s Health.” “We believe that it is important to enhance the lives of women through education and pampering. This event will give women an opportunity to be informed of the latest health news and experience a day devoted to learning how to take better care of themselves.” National Night Out set Police from all over Fayette County will join the Uniontown Police Department and Fayette County Crime Stoppers in a walk along Gallatin Avenue on Nov. 7 in observance of National Night Out. The goals are to build relationships with other police departments and encourage residents to assist police in keeping their communities safe, city Detective Phillip Jones said. “Police need all the assistance we can get to keep communities safe and crime free,” Jones said. “The public is a great asset in deterring crimes.” Gallatin Avenue was selected for the walk due to the number of nuisance crimes that occur there, but all city residents can participate in the night out by turning their porch lights on that night, he said. Police from Brownsville and Connellsville and state police will participate in the walk, which is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. Residents or organizations wishing to join in should call Jones at 724-437-3430 or meet in the parking lot across Beeson Avenue from the police station. He said residents can help police solve outstanding crimes by calling the department or Crime Stoppers at 724-437-TIPS or 877-834-TIPS. Crime Stoppers offers cash rewards for tips that lead to arrests and convictions. Jones said even anonymous can help police solve crimes. Parade planned The California Halloween parade, sponsored by the California VFD, will take place tonight at 6:30 on Wood Street in California. The parade will begin forming between 6 and 6:30 when numbers are to be picked up at the fire station.
