Sauers takes one-stroke lead in Air Canada championship SURREY, British Columbia (AP) – Gene Sauers shot a 5-under-par 66 on Saturday to take a one-stroke lead after the third round of the Air Canada Championship.
The 40-year-old Sauers, who won the last of his two PGA Tour titles in 1989 and hasn’t had a full tour card since 1996, had a 13-under 200 total Australians Peter Lonard and Robert Allenby were a stroke back after 68s.
Allenby, who came within a shot of a course record with a 62 Friday, dropped a stroke on the front nine before closing the gap with four birdies on the back, including the last two holes.
Steve Lowery (68) was two strokes back at 11 under, and third-round leader Craig Barlow (71) and Kevin Sutherland (69) were 10 under.
State Farm Classic
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -Sourth Korea’s Mi Hyun Kim eagled the 17th hole from 106 yards for a share of the third-round lead with France’s Patricia Meunier-Labouc in the State Farm Classic.
Kim, the 1999 tournament winner who is seeking her third victory of the year, shot a 4-under 68 to match Meunier-Lebouc (72) at 13-under 203 on the Rail Golf Course.
Emilee Klein (67) and Nancy Scranton (68), fighting for Solheim Cup spots in the final event in the points race for automatic berths on the U.S. team, were a stroke back along with Solheim Cup player Laura Diaz (67) and Australia’s Shani Waugh (67).
Pat Hurst (68), also vying for a Solheim spot, was two strokes behind with Solheim player Cristie Kerr (69), Angela Stanford (68) and Japan’s Akiko Fukushima (71).
Allianz Championship
WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – South Africa’s John Bland had a hole-in-one in a tournament-record 8-under 63 to take the second-round lead in the Allianz Championship.
Bland used a 5-iron to ace the 175-yard 16th, and made a 30-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole for an 11-under 131 total and a two-stroke lead over Bob Gilder (66).
The 57-year-old Bland, who won the last of his five senior titles in 1996, broke the record of 65 in the second-year event.
Hale Irwin, who began the round tied for the lead with Australia’s Graham Marsh, was three strokes back along with Spain’s Jose Marie Canizares. Irwin shot a 68, and Canizares had a 66.
BMW International Open
NORD-EICHENRIED, Germany – Denmark’s Thomas Bjorn shot a 4-under 66 to take a two-stroke lead in the BMW International Open.
Bjorn, the European Ryder Cup player who missed the cut in his last three starts, had an 18-under 198 total. Germany’s Bernhard Langer (67) and England’s Richard Bland (69) were tied for second.
Defending champion John Daly was seven strokes back after a 65.
