State police remind motorists to watch for school children
State police said motorists should be careful now that children have returned to school and school buses have returned to local roads. Police want to remind drivers that they must stop when buses stop and activate their red flashing lights on roads that do not have median dividers regardless of the direction of travel.
Motorist also must stop when a bus stops with its red lights flashing on roads with median dividers if they are traveling in the same direction as the bus.
Penalties for passing a bus stopped with its lights flashing include five points against licenses, up to a 60-day license suspension and fines and costs of $179 or more.
