Jacob D. Breakiron
Jacob Daniel Breakiron, 87, of Main Street, Smithfield, Pa., and formerly of Newark, Calif., died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at home, in Smithfield, Pa. He was born April 27, 1915, in Woodside, Nicholson Township, Pa., the son of the now late Alva Sylvester and Minnie Garlitts Breakiron.
He was a retired sheet metal worker for Peterbuilt Truck Manufactures in California, and a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army Infantry in the European Theater.
He was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, and the John C. Myers Victory Sunday School Class. He also belonged to the Uniontown Senior Citizens, VFW Post No. 47, and American Legion Post No. 278.
Surviving are a son, Barry L. Breakiron and wife, Shirley of Telford, Pa.; a daughter, Brenda Rich and husband, David of California; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; one brother, Raymond Breakiron of Proctorville, Ohio; four sisters, Edith B. Moser of Smithfield, Pa., the Rev. Mary B. Upton and husband, Richard of Harrisville, N.H., and Bertha Bilovesky and Laura Breakiron, both of Smithfield; a special friend, Nellie Bowden of Lemont Furnace, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Mareena Breakiron, who died on June 30, 1994; one brother, Ralph Breakiron; and two sisters, Florence Christopher and Amanda Jane, who died in infancy.
A Memorial Service will be held in the JOHN F. BROWNFIELD FUNERAL HOME, IN SMITHFIELD, on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Jay Hurley, Pastor of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Moriah Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends may make contributions to Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, or to one’s favorite charity.
