Volunteers are needed for upcoming events. The council invites all interested parents to attend the next meeting, set Oct. 3 at 9:30 a.m.

Grant received

The Greene County Conservation District has received a grant to install agricultural best-management practices in the Muddy Creek, Little Whiteley Creek, Whiteley Creek and Pumpkin Run watersheds as well as qualifying areas that drain into the Monongahela River.

This program is administered on a cost-share basis for qualifying practices.

This project will focus on decreasing or eliminating non-point source pollution related to agricultural activities in these watersheds. The primary resource concerns for this project area are nutrient management and accelerated erosion of stream banks, pastures, cropland and woodlands.

Some examples of qualifying practices are stabilized stream crossings, stream bank fencing, grazing systems, spring developments, barnyard run-off controls and manure storage facilities. Certain practices may require the development of a nutrient management plan.

For an application or more information, call the Greene County Conservation District at 724-852-5278 or send an email to gccd@county.greenepa.net.

Deadline for applications is Oct. 18.
