Helen Ramsay “Granny” Emmenegger

Helen Ramsay “Granny” Emmenegger, age 99 years and 10 months, died Friday, September 6, 2002, at her Springhill Township, Fayette County, Pa., home in which she was born November 17, 1902. A daughter of Benjamin and Sarah Eberhart Ramsay, she was a member of pioneer settling families of Springhill Township and was well known for her knowledge of the history of the Point Marion, Pa., and Springhill area.

She, along with her late husband, Alexander J. Emmenegger, was the proprietor of A & H Ceramics in Point Marion.

She was a member of many years of the Point Marion Progress Club, served 15 years as Leader of the Girl Scout Troop, was currently serving on the Board of Trustees for Mount Moriah Presbyterian Cemetery, and was a member of Point Marion United Methodist Church.

Helen was one of the two oldest graduates of Point Marion High School having graduated in 1921.

In addition to her husband she was predeceased by her sister, Louisa Ramsay Conn, son-in-law, Melvin Uphold, and parents.

Surviving are her daughter, Mary Jo Emmenegger Uphold of Point Marion; three grandchildren: Mark A Uphold of Mather, Pa., Matthew E. Uphold and Marcia U. Romine both of Point Marion; and five great grandchildren: Bethany U. Casagranda, Zachary Uphold, Sarah Uphold, Mark Uphold, and Brent Romine.

Helen had requested that there be no visitation or funeral services.

Private interment will be held in Point Marion Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be offered to Mount Moriah Presbyterian Cemetery, c/o Mike Moflar, 1001 Old Lake Lynn Road, Lake Lynn, PA 15451.

Arrangements are under direction of the RICHARD R. HEROD FUNERAL HOME, Point Marion, Pa.
