Suspect acquitted A Uniontown man was acquitted of terroristic threats Wednesday for allegedly threatening a Uniontown city police office officer.

However, jurors convicted Vaughn M. Gaines, 31, of public drunkenness and disorderly conduct that stemmed from a February 2001 fight at Darby’s Pub along Morgantown Street in Uniontown.

Officer Andre Mason testified that he was called to the bar for a fight and found Gaines and another man verbally fighting. When he tried to calm them, Mason testified that Gaines pushed him.

Man convicted

A Fayette County jury convicted 40-year-old Terry Young of numerous drug charges Wednesday.

Young, of Gordon Street, Uniontown, was convicted of three counts each possession, possession with intent to deliver and delivery of drugs.

State police trooper James Wicker Jr. charged Young after police set up undercover drug buys from him on three occasions in 2000: Feb. 8, March 23 and March 27.

In total, Young sold 1.26 grams cocaine to an undercover police informant.

He testified in his own defense and denied selling drugs on the March occasions. Young admitted he sold the drugs to a friend in February, but Assistant Public Defender Mary Campbell Spegar argued that police entrapped him.

Assistant District Attorney Mark D. Brooks prosecuted the case.

Judge Steve P. Leskinen will sentence Young at a later date.
