Today through next week: ANTIOCH BAPTIST CHURCH, Edenborn, will have its annual homecoming on Sunday at 4 p.m. with Rev. Lee and his choir from Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church of Whitsett. Dinner will be served from 1 to 3 p.m. The Rev. Solomon Dotson is pastor. Florence Overton is chairwoman.

ASBURY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, corner of Beeson Avenue and Dunbar Street in Uniontown, worships Sunday when the Rev. Jim Fogg will give the message “Love Is Not Easy’ at the casual 9 a.m. and traditional 11 a.m. worship services. The 11 a.m. service will also feature special music by the Asbury Chancel Choir, directed by William Dreucci, and a celebration of Christian Education Sunday that will include teacher dedication and a special offering to support four Christian education ministries of the Western Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church. BROWNFIELD UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, located at the corner of Hopwood-Fairchance and Brownfield roads, will hold an outdoor worship service Saturday at 6 p.m. Participants are to bring snacks and chairs.

BROWNSVILLE UNITED METHODIST CHARGE announces the Rev. Paul E. Wilson Sr. is beginning a special emphasis on prayer time. This week’s sermon is “Do We Know How to Pray.’ Services are Sunday at 8:30 a.m. at West Bend, 10 a.m. at South Brownsville and 11 a.m. at Brownsville First.

On Monday, the trustees meet at 6:30 p.m. at First and the administrative council will meet at 7 p.m. at First. On Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m., small groups will begin meeting in the lounge at South Church. Small groups are open to women of the charge. This is an opportunity to share strengths and concerns through prayer and Bible study.

On Sept. 22 at 7 p.m., Steel City Quartet will be in concert at South Church. Since 1983, Steel City Quartet has appeared in more than 2,700 churches, fairs and auditoriums through the tri-state area. They perform traditional, Southern gospel, country and now oldies since their latest release “Fabulous ’50s Gospel’ was aired nationwide on television. Members include John (Legs) Lawrenzi, singing tenor and manager of the group from Sutersville, Church Johnson of Brownsville, singing lead and baritone; Dara Johnson, singing lead and alto; and Barbara Yurasek from Johnstown, who runs the sound equipment. First St., Connellsville, announces the United Baptist Senior Choir is having its annual day on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. Christian Travelers Male Chorus of the Bethlehem Baptist Church of McKeesport will be in concert, under the leadership of Norman Buckner and the directorship of Valada Walker. Gerry Smith is president. Ida Stokes Is secretary. The Christian Male Chorus has been in existence for more than 20 years, conceived by the Rev. Frank Nelson Roach. The group consists of 14 committed and dedicated men. They range in age from their 30s to their 70s and travel over the tri-state area. CHARISMATIC MASS will be held Oct. 3 at 6:30 p.m. at the Parish of St. Oliver Plunkett, St. Michael Archangel Church in Fredericktown, with the River of Life Prayer Group. The Rev. Vincent Gigliotti, pastor of St. Peter Parish in Brownsville, will be celebrant. A covered-dish social will follow the Mass in the parish hall.

CROP WALK: On Sunday, Oct. 6, a CROP walk will begin at Mount Pleasant Church of God, 936 W. Main St., at 2 p.m. and conclude at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on Mulberry Street in Scottdale. A bus leaves Scottdale at 1:30 p.m. to bring walkers from that area to the start point. The bus will also be at the end of the walk to bring Mount Pleasant-area walkers back to their home area.

Each walker is encouraged to enlist sponsors, who have the ability to direct 75 percent of their gifts to any of 19 approved international hunger-fighting agencies. If undesignated, 75 percent of the money goes to Church World Service for worldwide hunger relief and development.

The other one-quarter of funds stays in the area and will be shared equally between the Scottdale Fresh Express, distributed through the food bank of Westmoreland County at the Mennonite Church at Scottdale, and the Mount Pleasant Meals on Wheels. For more information, phone 724-547-7110.

Officials said, “Over the past years, they have volunteered their time and have worked tirelessly in preparing meals for banquets and sessions at the Christian center. We would like to say ‘thank you’ for a job well done. It is always good to give honor where honor is due.’
