News & Notes: Tree stands recalled; antlerless license supply shrinking

2 min read

Bass Pro Shops has announced that it is recalling 2001 Bighorn Ram, Timber Ghost and Hoot Owl fixed position tree stands manufactured by Hunter’s View for ratchet strap failures with one resulting in a hunter falling from a tree. Model numbers of the three tree stands in question are HVTS-400, HVTS-500 and HVTS-402.

This is a second and separate recall of these treestands. They were first recalled in August of 2001 for cabling problems.

If you possess one of these stands call Hunter’s View, Lt. At 1-888-878-0440 for instructions on how to receive a refund or a new replacement tree stand.

ANTLERLESS LICENSE UPDATE: Pennsylvania Game Commissionannounced that, based on Thursday’s survey of county treasurers, 51 counties have exhausted their antlerless deer license allocations. The survey showed 79,256 antlerless deer licenses remain.

There are nine counties with fewer than 2,000 antlerless licenses remaining, including Armstrong (1,507); Beaver (2,000); Greene (1,000); Lawrence (113); Lehigh (909); Luzerne (150); Philadelphia (511); Pike (300); and Wyoming (270).

The remaining counties with available antlerless licenses are: Allegheny (24,000); Bucks (13,800); Chester (8,500); Delaware (5,413); Montgomery (8,900); Washington (9,583); and York (2,300).

To assist hunters in determining which counties still have remaining antlerless licenses, the Game Commission, working with county treasurers, has been updating the antlerless license sales through news releases and regular postings on its website (www.pgc.state.pa.us).

Forms and instructions for submitting applications for unsold licenses are available on page 65 of the 2002-2003 Pennsylvania Digest of Hunting and Trapping Regulations, which is provided to each license buyer. Additional forms for unsold antlerless licenses may be printed from the 2002-2003 Digest posted on the Game Commission’s website (www.pgc.state.pa.us).

Additional “Official Antlerless Deer License Envelopes” may be obtained from any issuing agent (including county treasurers), Game Commission offices or by calling the Game Commission’s License Division at 717-787-2084.

Second-round unsold licenses will be mailed no later than Monday, Sept. 23.

Beginning Monday, Nov. 4, hunters may apply over-the-counter for unsold antlerless licenses in all counties. Hunters have been able to apply for unsold antlerless licenses over-the-counter in Special Regulations Areas counties since Aug. 26.
