Pioneer Days
The clock is ticking and Pioneer Days are only a wink of an eye ahead.
Make sure you mark your calendars for Oct. 4, 5 and 6 and this year there is no fee to enter the festival.
A quick reminder: Oct. 4, Friday night, will be a great three-band concert at Sampey Park.
The parade begins at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, with Alice and Tom Glawinski as George and Martha Washington. This year, the PAHS is bestowing the honor of Grand Marshall to Eldo DiVirgilio, who has been the “King Pin” for the PAHS for so many years.
The festival will run from 10 a.m. until dusk. There will be the always-enjoyable food booths, (don’t forget how quickly that soup goes, and this year it is homemade vegetable beef). Colonial demonstrators, the “goodies” at the bake shop and the wonderful smell (and taste) of the bakery bread being baked and sampled.
The crafters are ready to display all their items at the Mary Fuller Frazier house, open along with the State Bank Museum.
We don’t want to forget the children’s area for the fun and games for the little ones.
The battle lines are being drawn for the Civil War and Colonial skirmishes and they have a new log cabin in which to draw up their battle plans.
As usual, the entertainment will be going on all day, both days, on two stages. Golf carts will abound for those who need help as they go back in time down the hills as the Pioneer Days are re-created for a short time.
So, watch for more information, but get ready to be entertained and fed really well.
The pancake breakfast has returned on Sunday, Oct. 6, from 8 a.m. until noon.
A new competition is announced as part of the Perryopolis Pioneer Days’ festivities.
The Foods of Fall and Harvest will have its initial display and judging on Oct. 4 at the Washington Grist Mill.
Interested exhibitors may bring produce and food products for display to the Mill between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Judging will occur after 5 p.m. by the Dawson Grange Community Fair judges.
There will be three levels of ribbon awards. Judges’ decisions are final.
Entries must be grown, made or created completely by the named submitter who must be at least 16 to enter. Recipes should be included in a one-page format.
Anyone in Fayette County is eligible to submit an entry or two.

Christian Church
Christian Church activities include:
Kid’s Club begins meeting on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m.
We’ve been busy recruiting teachers, kitchen workers and leaders. This year, we’re rolling back the price of Kids Club. A membership in the Kids Club costs $25 for the first child in a family and $40 for two or more children.
The membership cost helps defray the cost of the supper meals. Visitors are welcome at Kids Club, but we’re asking you to pay $1.50 for each of your guests’ supper meals.
The schedule will also include a brief chapel praise service each Monday night after supper.
Church Board Moderator Penny Timcheck is holding us to our plan. Her list of work projects around the church still has some important tasks left. Therefore, we’ll have another work day on Sept. 21 at 7 a.m. We need cleaners, repairmen and repairwomen, and, as always, folks who are not afraid to throw garbage away.
Red Cross Blood Drive – We will be hosting another Red Cross Blood Drive in our Family Life Center on Sept. 26 from noon to 6 p.m. You all know the importance of donating life-saving blood, but we also need volunteers to help as walkers, kitchen canteen, and cookie bakers. If you can help as a volunteer, please contact the church office at 724-736-8311.
