Charges pending against driver in fatal accident
CONNELLSVILLE – Charges are pending against the driver in a fatal one-vehicle accident that occurred Saturday along Route 119, city police said Sunday. And, police identified the passenger who died in the crash as Joseph J. Fuller, 42, of Uniontown.
The accident occurred as the vehicle traveled north along Route 119, crossed the medial strip and came to rest in the southbound lanes near the North Seventh Street intersection.
Connellsville police said charges are pending the results of blood-alcohol tests conducted on the 37-year-old driver, who was not seriously injured in the crash and was transported to Highlands Hospital in Connellsville.
Police said the man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or controlled substance.
Police said no other occupants were in the vehicle.
Connellsville police Cpl. Kenneth Jaynes said the accident occurred Saturday at 2:40 p.m., and that state police brought an accident reconstruction unit to the scene.
According to Jaynes, the vehicle came to rest on the west side of the Memorial Bridge and it appeared that the vehicle didn’t hit anything.
However, Jaynes added that until the reconstruction report is completed, it is impossible to determine exactly what caused the accident.
“Once the state police take the measurements and tabulate the figures, they will know exactly what caused the car to wreck,” Jaynes said Saturday.
Connellsville police were assisted at the scene by off-duty officers, the Connellsville police auxiliary, South Connellsville police, state police, New Haven Hose Co. and Fayette EMS.
