Archal R. Showman

Archal R. Showman, 84, of Vanderbilt, Pa., went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 16, 2002, while in the UPMC Montifiore Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born July 14, 1918, in Mill Run, Pa., a son of the late Ira C. and Effa Shearer Showman.

Archal was a resident of Vanderbilt for the last 64 years. Prior to his retirement he worked as a salesman. He was a Veteran of World War II having served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific on the USS Essex which was a CV-9 Aircraft Carrier. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Connellsville where he served as a past deacon and was a member of the choir.

Archal is survived by his wife of 63 years Ruth R. Smith Showman; a son Brian A. Showman and his wife Kelly of Vanderbilt and a daughter Janice Critchfield of Star Junction; five grandchildren Shelley Bertocci and her husband Cliff and Lori Jacobs all of Perryopolis, Danielle Brown and her husband Troy of Star Junction, Brian A. Showman Jr. and Robert C. Showman both of Vanderbilt; three great grandchildren Keana and Chaise Bertocci and Caitlin Jacobs; a brother Marlin Showman of North Carolina and a sister Lorella Showman of Michigan.

Family and friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, Pa., today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A Funeral Service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home, with Rev. Larry R. Hellein officiating.

A Committal Service and interment will follow in the Bowman-Flatwoods Cemetery.

Donations may be made to the Chair Lift Fund at the First Baptist Church, 301 S. Pittsburgh St., Connellsville, Pa. 15425 in memory of Archal R. Showman.
