Frazier school officials to vote on assistant basketball coach

By Joyce Koballa 1 min read

PERRYOPOLIS – While everything is in place for winter sports in the Frazier School District, the school board will vote tonight to fill the position of assistant girls’ basketball coach at the recommendation of the board’s athletic committee. Members of the committee interviewed Rachel Uhrinek on Tuesday during a special meeting as well as the possibility of having the district install a six to eight-foot chain link fence around the bottom of the stadium bleachers to keep youths from climbing in and out during football games.

Bill Vargo, athletic committee chairman, attended the meeting along with board members Eugene Gearing and Joseph Stark.

According to Vargo, the coaching position became vacant following the retirement of teacher Jack Kifer. Vargo added that Uhrinek has been working on a volunteer basis with the girl’s basketball team, which is currently being coached by her brother, Chris Lucovitz.

Uhrinek, is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh where she was active in various sports. Unhrink said working with the girls’ basketball team for the last month has been a learning experience in which she tries to incorporate the role of sportsmanship with having fun.
