Clara Andria
Clara Andria, 92, passed away at her residence, Bedford Colonial Courtyard, in Bedford, Pa., on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002. She was a longtime resident of Hopwood, and a Uniontown beauty salon operator for 60 years.
Clara was born Oct. 17, 1909, in Salerno, Italy, daughter of Guiseppi and Josephine (Fee) Andria.
In 1929, Clara graduated from the Griffith Beauty School in Pittsburgh. When Clara returned to Uniontown, she first worked for Mrs. Hostetler’s shop on Morgantown Street, then continued working for Mrs. Hostetler when the shop moved to the Woolworth Building downtown. Clara was also employed at Nixon’s Beauty Salon in downtown Uniontown. She started her own beauty salon in the Woolworth Building with subsequent salon locations on Gallatin Avenue and Beeson Boulevard, until her retirement in 1993.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Carmella “Nellie” Nicosia; and four brothers, Ernesto, Donato (John), Francisco (Chi Chi), and Amadeo (Chink).
Surviving are two brothers, Fiore (Shorty) and his wife, Stella of Fairchance, and Edward of Smithfield; and one sister, Marguerite Rogish of Bedford. In addition, she is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC., 80 Morgantown St., Uniontown, where friends will be received on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, from 9:30 until 11:30 a.m., when a Blessing Service will be held, with the Rev. Fr. Kenneth G. Zaccagnini V.F., officiating.
Interment will follow in Sylvan Heights Cemetery. The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, that memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society, Fayette Unit.
