Career fair set Career fair set
Fayette County Area Vocational-Technical School’s Car Cruise/Career Fair will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the school, which is located at 175 George-Fairchance Road, Uniontown. The event will feature refreshments, trophies, D.J., door prizes and a dunking booth. Dash plaques will be awarded to the first 50 cars. All cars, trucks and motorcycles are welcome. Flag disposal offered
The Hancock, McCune, Horne Post 705 The American Legion, Centerville, 1101 Old National Pike, is going to conduct a dignified disposal of unserviceable flags ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 28, starting at 2 p.m. Anyone having flags that are faded and worn are asked to bring them to the post home this week after 5 p.m. during the week and after 12 noon and until 2 p.m. Saturday everyone is welcome to stay and watch the ceremony. History program planned
This Wednesday, a program, sponsored by California Area Historical Society, features Joanne Shelby, a living history portrayer with Co. A, 9th PA Reserves, Civil War re-enactors. Shelby, who bears an uncanny resemblance to Mary Todd Lincoln, will present the program “Kentucky Girl, Western Matron, Republican Queen: A Visit with Mrs. Abraham Lincoln.’ Shelby has done extensive research to develop the mannerisms and dress of this interesting first lady, perhaps the most reviled first lady in history. History comes alive as Shelby shares Mrs. Lincoln’s perspective of the Civil War life with her husband and children and life as first lady. The presentation begins at 7:30 p.m. at the California United Methodist Church, Third & Liberty streets, California. A short business meeting begins at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Church hold sale The Church of Jesus Christ, located on Route 201, Vanderbilt, will have a yard sale Thursday, through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Organizers said something for everyone will be available, including food, baked goods, clothes, furniture and tools.
