Erwin Saniga

Erwin Saniga, age 89, of Bentleyville, died September 25, 2002. After retiring as an infantry officer in the U.S. Army, a 23-year career that included service in the European Theater during World War II, Mr. Saniga worked as head golf professional at Greene County Country Club from 1969 to 1974 and served as mayor of Bentleyville.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Gloria Lee Tonini Saniga; two sons, Steven of Fayette City and Erwin of Nottingham, Pa.; a daughter, Barbara Schoenholtz of Gainesville, Fla.; three grandsons, Brian, David and John Schoenholtz; two sisters, Estelle Smith of Glen Cove, N.Y., and Irene Napsha of Pittsburgh; and a brother, Milton, of Bentleyville.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Greenlee Funeral Home, 619 Main Street, Bentleyville, where a prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial in Ave Maria Church, Bentleyville, with the Very Rev. Pierre M. Falkenhan as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Carroll Township.
