Contract awarded PennDOT District 12 has awarded a contract to a Uniontown company to rehabilitate a section of Route 18 in Center Township, beginning this week.
Golden Eagle Construction Co. will work on drainage and preparatory work until around mid-December and then suspend the project for the winter. Work should then resume in April and should be completed by mid-June.
The project includes drainage upgrades, repaving, paved shoulders, guardrail upgrades, signs, seeding and mulching from the Rosemont Cemetery to the intersection of Route 21 near the West Greene High School in Rogersville.
Flaggers will control traffic.
Meeting scheduled
The Carmichaels Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its regular meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Greene Academy of Art.
Library offers programs
Flenniken Public Library is offering free after-school tutoring and homework programs.
The program provides individual learning instruction in any subject to students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Instruction is provided and supervised by Diann Preston, a certified Pennsylvania instructor.

Also, Preston is offering a program called Classroom Plus. For more details, call the library.
The library also is providing GED classes on Monday and Wednesday at the library.
The library hosts a story hour Tuesdays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. for children 3 to 5 years old. Activities include a story, crafts and a snack.
Toddler Time is held Fridays from 10:30 to 11 a.m. for children 11/2 to 3 years old. A story and snack will be provided. Registration is available at the library for all sessions. Professional storyteller Gloria Gugliotta will be at the library every third Tuesday of the month.
A teen book discussion group meets the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month, from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. Call the library for more details.
