Deadline for Tourism Summit extended
Kathleen J. Dowling of the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce said the registration deadline for the third annual Tourism Summit has been changed from March 31 to April 3. The summit will be held at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort and Spa on April 7 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Dowling said the registration date is the only thing that has changed with this year’s summit.
“We simply moved the deadline in order to accommodate people,” said Dowling. “Everything else is the same. We will still have three concurrent break out session.”
Dowling said those attending from non-profit organizations are encouraged to attend the break-out session on “Exploring Partnerships that Benefit Your Bottom Line,” while retail and tourism industry participants are encouraged to attend the break-out session on “Visual Merchandising and Visitor Preparedness.”
The third session, which is for local municipal government enrollees such as mayors, council members and supervisors, is entitled “Preparing Your Area for an Influx of Visitors.”
Dowling said each registered and paid attendee would be required to choose one of the three sessions.
She also said, “Tourism is a very important element of our local economy and the second largest industry both in the state as well as in Fayette County. The input and feedback over the years has been a crucial part of our work to enhance, market and sell our beautiful county to the rest of the world.”
Anyone interested in registering for the Tourism Summit is asked to fill out a form and either mail it in with their payment or drop it by the Fayette Chamber of Commerce at 65 W. Main St., Uniontown by April 3.
Dowling said registration to date has been steady but there is still room.
“If people want to come they need to at least call us so we know which group session they want to attend,” said Dowling. “If they can’t get the money to us in time here at the chamber they can always pay us the day of the summit at Nemacolin.”

Dowling said past attendance has been very good.
“Last year we had about 300 participants at Nemacolin and we would like to that at least that many people this year.”
Dowling said a luncheon, which will cost participants a nominal fee, is a cooperative effort by the county commissioners, the Fayette Chamber of Commerce, Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, Fayette Forward and the Laurel Highlands Visitors’ Bureau.
