Diabetes program to be held this month at Health First Medical Center
A workshop titled “Preventing Diabetes: You Have the Power” will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 10, and 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, April 29, at the Health First Medical Center on Route 119 near the Fayette County Fairgrounds. The cost is $3 per person or $5 per couple. Door prizes will include cookbooks titled “Diabetes A to Z” and “Magic Menus for People with Diabetes.” Participants will also have a chance to create health lunch bags and mini alarm clocks. Gift certificates from local restaurants and other businesses will be available.
Participants can find out if they or their family members are at risk for developing diabetes. At the workshop, participants will learn:
– The symptoms and testing for diabetes.
– The various types of diabetes and their causes.
– Practical suggestions/exercises to reduce your risk of this disease.
– How to make tasty snacks that are low in fat and sugar. Great tasting diabetic snacks and recipes will be provided.
Fayette County Penn State Cooperative Extension, Health First Medical Center and Fayette Home Care sponsor the event.
Guest speaker is Doreen Bugai of the American Diabetes Association.
