Registration announced Albert Gallatin Area School District has announced the schedule for kindergarten registration.
The time for each registration day is 9:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The schedule is as follows:
Monday, April 7,D. Ferd Swaney Elementary; Tuesday, April 8, A. L. Wilson Elementary and Masontown Elementary; Wednesday, April 9, Friendship Hill Elementary; Thursday, April 10, George J. Plava Elementary; and Friday, April 11, Smithfield Elementary.
To be eligible for kindergarten, a child must be five years of age on or before Aug. 31. To be eligible for first grade, a child must be six on or before Aug. 31. Children who are currently enrolled in the district’s kindergarten program need not register for first grade.
Parents must present their child’s official Certificate of Birth from the state in which their child was born and the immunization record at the time of kindergarten registration. Immunization record must include the following: 4 DT – including one dose administered on or after the fourth birthday; 3 Polio; 1 MMR and a second dose of measles vaccine, preferably given as Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR); series of 3 Hepatitis B; and Varivax (chicken pox) – or a written statement from parent/guardian of having had the disease.
The kindergarten registration includes vision, speech, and kindergarten screening tests. Children who will be moving into the Albert Gallatin Area School District should also register for school at this time.
Ministry welcomed
First Baptist Church of West Newton, located at Vine and Sixth St., welcomes the Upper Room, a Christian ministry dedicated to presenting the Last Supper, today at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.
Grant awarded
The Pennsylvania Humanities Council has awarded a grant of $11,370 to the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy for a special exhibit that will open at Fallingwater in Mill Run next year.
Sarah Beyer, curator of education for Fallingwater, explained the exhibit will be called “A Fallingwater Homecoming’ and will be displayed at the former Bear Run Nature Center, currently being remodeled to double the space for interpretative programs. The exhibit will open in March 2004.
“As part of the research for the exhibit, we are looking for anyone who may have worked on the construction of Fallingwater or had family who did,’ said Beyer. “They should contact Denise Miner, education outreach coordinator, at 724-329-1441, extension 1202.’
The Pennsylvania Humanities Council is a private, non-profit organization, funded primarily by the National Endowment for the Humanities, with additional support from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, individuals, corporations and foundations.
Open house set
Saint Vincent College Office of Admission and Financial Aid has announced a “get acquainted day open house” for prospective students and their families Sunday, April 6 at the Latrobe campus.

Registration planned
St. Mary School in Uniontown will welcome and register new students the week of April 7.
Kindergarten registration will be held Thursday, April 10 from 9 to 11 a.m. and 12:30 to 2 p.m. Open registration will be held for pre-school and first through eighth grades April 7-9 at the same times scheduled for kindergarten registration. A $25 registration fee is applied to future tuition.

Task force to meet
The Southwestern Local Task Force monthly meeting will be held Thursday, April 3, at 7 p.m. at Intermediate Unit 1, Coal Center.

Registration announced
Kids Korner, Cardale, will have full-day kindergarten registration April 7-11.
The age requirement to register a child is four years, seven months by the first day of school. Parents should have the child’s birth certificate, immunization record and Social Security card for registration. Full-day kindergarten at Kids Korner will begin Sept. 2.
