Robert D. (Bob) Hughes, Sr.
Robert D. (Bob) Hughes, Sr., 80, of Uniontown, Pa., died Monday, March 31, 2003 at his residence. He was born November 13, 1922 in Uniontown. Preceding him in death were his parents Alva C. Hughes and Grace Edna Swaney Hughes and his wife Evelyn V. Green Hughes.
Mr. Hughes was a veteran of WWII having served honorably in the United States Army where he was awarded the Bronze Star, a former employee of Western Electric and later Bell Atlantic for 41 years, a member of the Bell Pioneers, was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 51 and NU VFW Post 8543 where he served as Past Commander, Junior Vice Commander and Judge Advocate and served as Quartermaster of NU VFW Post 8543 for 13 years, was a member of the Honor Guard Unit, served as District Quartermaster, was a member of Amvets General Marshall Post 103 Hopwood and attended Calvary United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a son Robert D. (Danny) Hughes, Jr. and his wife Vicky of Mt. Morris, N.Y.; two daughters Cathy Ann Hughes Wade and her husband Albert of Bobtown and Nancy E. Hughes of San Marcos, Calif.; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are numerous cousins and a special cousin, Elsie Gribble, whom he considered a sister.
Friends will be received in the JEROME W. SHELL FUNERAL HOME, 164 S. Mt. Vernon Ave., Uniontown, Pa., today from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Thursday until 11 a.m. the hour of service with the Rev. Thomas Whitehead officiating.
Interment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross or Albert Gallatin Home Care and Hospice, 20 Highland Park Drive, Uniontown, Pa.
Military Honors will be accorded at the cemetery by NU VFW 8543 and American Legion Post 51 Uniontown.
