Ewing Durwin Helmick, 60, of Fairchance, Pa., died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, in Greene County Memorial Hospital, Waynesburg, Pa.

He was born Oct. 27, 1942, in Cumberland Township, Greene County, Pa., son of the late Henry Leonard Helmick and Nellie Miller Helmick.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Lydia Ann Helmick; and two brothers, Dennis Helmick and Robert Helmick.

Ewing was a manager for Picway Shoes for 37 years.

Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Brenda Hughes Helmick; his loving children, Jeffrey Helmick and wife, Kim Helmick of Brownfield, Pa., Lori Hanzes and husband, Rudy Hanzes of Fairchance, and Timmy Helmick of Uniontown; and Pappy’s loving grandchildren, Stephanie and Joshua Helmick and Rachel and Rudy Hanzes. Also surviving are brothers and a sister, Leonard Helmick of Columbus, Ohio, Sturgis Helmick of Las Vegas, Nev. Donnie Helmick of Chambersburg, Pa., William Helmick of Charleroi, Pa., and Bethal Nestor of Hopwood, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church St., Fairchance, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Friday, April 4, 2003, until 11 a.m., the hour of service, with the Rev. M. L. Stringfellow officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park. Visitation was also held on Wednesday, April 1, 2003, from 7 to 9 p.m.
