Theodore M. Kotula Sr.
Theodore M. “Ted” Kotula Sr., 82, of Daisytown, Pa., died Friday, April 4, 2003. He was born on September 29, 1921 in Vestaburg, Pa., son of Frank and Anna Kotula.
Mr. Kotula was a Veteran who served with the United States Army from 1942 to 1945 as a Sergeant in the Northern Solomons and Luzon. For his service he received the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal with two Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, and the Victory Medal.
He had worked for Jones and Laughlin Steel Corporation in their Gateway Coal Mine as a Foreman for many years before retiring in 1984.
Mr. Kotula was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Daisytown, United Mine Workers of America, and the John F. Kennedy American Legion Post 377 in California, Pa.
On May 8, 1946 he married Stella Mondrella Kotula, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Theodore M. Kotula Jr. and his wife, Stephanie, of Daisytown, Pa.; grandson, Jeff M. Kotula and his wife, Michele, of Washington, Pa.; and granddaughters: Melissa Kotula Barras and her husband, Craig Barras, of Greensburg, Pa., and Lindsay Kotula of Frederick, Maryland.
Two brothers, Joseph Kotula and Walter Kotula, and parents preceded him in death.
Visitation will be private.
A public Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, April 7, at 1 p.m. in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Daisytown, with Rev. Fr. Francis Jurewicz as Celebrant.
Interment will also be private.
