Carmichaels council to get $25,000 to buy furniture

CARMICHAELS – Borough council may have held off for now on a new municipal building, but members still get to buy some new furniture. Borough secretary Mary Ann Lewis announced at a brief council meeting Tuesday that she was notified the borough will still receive a $25,000 grant via state Rep. H. William DeWeese, D-Waynesburg, for furniture at the existing borough building.

Lewis said there is a restriction that the furniture cannot be attached and must remain movable, but council may use the grant to purchase such items as file cabinets, desks and even a photocopy machine. She said the grant may also be used for furniture for the police department.

She said plans discussed last year for a new municipal building were put off, but may be reconsidered sometime in the future.

In another matter, Lewis told council that a Pine Street resident has lodged a complaint about the barking of neighbors’ dogs.

Council president Ryan Armstrong commented he did not know what council could do about the problem, and councilman John Paletta said he did not think it was a matter that council needed to discuss.

Councilwoman Annette Thomas noted a similar issue was solved among neighbors on another street when the owner of the offending dog agreed to use a special anti-bark collar.

The board took no related action.
