Announcements CROSS WALK: The Rev. Ken Walls of Fairchance begins his journey today to carry a cross from one end of Fayette County to another to recall the Passion of Christ and raise funds for mission work. Rev. Walls will undertake a 39-mile journey today and Saturday, walking along Route 119 from the West Virginia border to the Westmoreland County border. The Rev. Wayne Whoolery, pastor of Shoaf and Little Brownfield Free Methodist Churches, will also participate. Besides the Gospel message, the team hopes to encourage people to donate funds to SonLight Missions to build a home in San Luis, Mexico, for boys who are forced to leave their orphanage once they become teen-agers and have no place to go. They often end up on the streets. BROWNSVILLE AREA MINISTERIAL ASSOCIATION will host a Good Friday service at 7 p.m. at Fort Burd Presbyterian Church, 200 Thornton Road, Brownsville. The Rev. David Clark, pastor of Fort Burd, will lead worship and the Rev. Dr. Herman Jackson, pastor of Mount Lebanon Baptist Church of Brownsville, will preach. The service was previously scheduled to take place at Brownsville Area High School Auditorium.
BROWNSVILLE UNITED METHODIST CHARGE announces the Rev. Paul E. Wilson Sr.’s Palm Sunday message will be the last in a series called “The Struggle and the Glory in the Hills in Jesus’ Life.’ He will speak on “The Hill of Transfiguration’ and palms will be distributed at Sunday worship at 8:30 a.m. at West Bend, 10 a.m. at South Brownsville and 11 a.m. at Brownsville First.

The entrance into Jerusalem will be proclaimed. There is a staffed nursery for preschool-aged children sponsored by the deacons. The adult choir, directed by Thomas Rishel, will sing. Then the service will focus on the Passion of Christ. The Gospel reading will be broken up with the congregation singing responses. The sacrament of the Lord’s Supper will be celebrated. The One Great Hour of Sharing continues to be received during Easter. Choir practice will take place following worship.
The Maundy Thursday service begins at 6 p.m. in fellowship hall. Those attending are asked to bring their own table service and A-G, a salad, H-R, a side dish, and S-Z, a dessert. Meat, rolls and beverage will be provided. Worship with Communion will begin at 7 p.m. and take place around the tables in fellowship hall. This will be a time to reflect on Jesus’ last supper with his disciples as they observed the Jewish Passover Feast.

GRACE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH OF COAL CENTER, located south of Route 70, exit 36 West or exit 35 east, south on Route 481, turn right at the BP gas station and the church is on the left, is preparing for its seventh annual Holy Week Passion play and cantata “Watch the Lamb’ April 16-18 at 8 p.m. Performances last approximately an hour and 15 minutes. Admission is free but there will be an offering basket at the door to help defray costs. Seating is limited.
More than 200 people from the congregation made the production possible. In addition to the 100 cast and crew, others sew and care for the costumes, build, paint and assembly scenery, direct parking and provide and care for the animals. Members of the chancel choir and drama team, Acts of Grace, form the core of the cast with many supporting members, including the Sonshine Children’s Choir.
On Easter, the church will offer a sunrise service at 6:30 a.m. and combined Easter morning service at 10:45 a.m., with a contemporary worship service at 7 p.m.

SCOTTDALE CHORAL SOCIETY is preparing the music for their 2003 Easter concerts under the direction of Rod Sturtz and accompanied by Sue Booher. The first concert will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Mulberry St., Scottdale on Palm Sunday at 7:30 p.m. The concert will conclude the annual Lenten services sponsored by the Scottdale Association of Churches.
The second concert will be at Cochran Memorial United Methodist Church in Dunbar on Monday, April 21, at 7:30 p.m. An offering will be received at each concert to support the work of the chorus. The chorus is composed of singers from Scottdale, Mount Pleasant, Dunbar, Dickerson Run, Perryopolis, Connellsville and the surrounding area.
The chorus was originally formed in 1943 and has consistently performed Christmas and Easter concerts with the exception of a few years of inactivity many years ago. The chorus has grown over the past few years to its present enrollment of 42 singers.
