Allen Farquhar Jr.
Allen Farquhar Jr., age 80, of Perryopolis, Pa., died Saturday, April 12, 2003 at 4 a.m. in Jefferson Hospital. He was born May 12, 1922 in Charleroi, Pa., son of Allen Farquhar Sr. and Mary Ernest Farquhar.
Allen graduated in 1940 from the former Marion High School, Belle Vernon R. D., Pa., and continued his education by completing an 18-month course in 1941 from Leonard Business School in Charleroi, Pa., accounting from LaSalle Extension University, Chicago, Illinois, in 1955, and the Dale Carnegie Course from Dale Carnegie & Associates in 1942.
He was employed by Donora Southern Railroad Company in Track Maintenance for six months (1942), as Yard Clerk (three months, 1942), Service, Demurrage Clerk from 1946 to 1949, Maintenance of Way Clerk from 1949 to 1952, Store Keeper from 1952 to 1956, and Assistant Timekeeper and Cashier from 1956 to 1960.
In 1961 he became Local Office Manager for Luria Brothers.
From 1962 to 1967 he worked as Demurrage and Claims Clerk for McKeesport Connecting Railroad Company.
Allen served as Manager, Advertising Specialty Division, for Sabin Industries from 1967 to the present.
He was also an agent for AFLAC Insurance and President of Southwestern Mutual Fire Insurance.
Allen served in the United States Army Signal Corps as a Code Clerk, Allied Force Headquarters, from 1942 to 1945 with service in North Africa and Italy and was discharged at the rank of Sergeant Technician.
He was a member of Brightwell-Dougherty American Legion Post 484 in Fayette City, Pa.
His service organizations include: Past Master of Gummert Lodge No. 252 F. & A. M. in Fayette City, Pa., Morning Star Grange No. 1271 where he was a member for 58 years, was Past Master and also held many offices, Past Master of Fayette County Pomona Grange No. 49.
Allen was a Charter Member and Vice President of the Pennsylvania State Grange Credit Union and served on the Youth Committee for the Pennsylvania State Grange.
He was also a Boy Scout Leader and District Boy Scout Committee member, served as Judge of Elections for Washington Township for many years, was past President of Fayette City-Belle Vernon Health & Welfare, active member of Community Ambulance Service, and was a member of the Fayette County Gideons.
Allen served on the Perryopolis Historical Society as Secretary.
He also held many offices in the District United Methodist Men.
Allen was a faithful and a life member of Little Redstone United Methodist Church, Fayette City, where he was Superintendent for many years, a Certified Lay Speaker, and a Lay Leader for many years. He also held many offices in the Church during his lifetime.
Three sisters, Martha Shenal, Elise Tiernan, Minnie McCullough, two brothers, James and Kenneth Farquhar, and parents preceded him in death.
He is survived by two brothers and two sisters: Frank Farquhar and wife, Bonnie, of Belle Vernon, Pa., John Farquhar of Perryopolis, Pa., Mrs. Mary Stimmell of Fayette City, Pa., and Mrs. Richard (Ruth) Osborne of Perryopolis; many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the BLAIR-LOWTHER FUNERAL HOME INC., 106 East Independence Street, Perryopolis, Pa., today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Visitation continues Tuesday, April 15, in Little Redstone United Methodist Church, Fayette City, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Funeral Services will begin at 11 a.m. with the Rev. James Pond officiating.
Interment will follow in Little Redstone Methodist Cemetery, Fayette City, Pa., where graveside Military Honors will be accorded by American Legion Honor Guard Post 484, Fayette City.

Gummert Lodge No. 252 F. & A. M. of Fayette City will conduct a Masonic Service in the Funeral Home this evening at 7:30 p.m.
Morning Star Grange will conduct a service Monday evening at 7 p.m.
