Michael J. Omatick, 73, of Dunbar, Pa., passed away Saturday, April 12, 2003 in Uniontown Hospital. He was born March 8, 1930 in Connellsville, Pa., son of Joseph Omatick and Caroline Kluz Omatick.

Michael graduated from Connellsville High School in 1948 where he was an excellent football player and participated in the Jaycee’s Dapper Dan All-Star Game his Senior year.

He continued his education at The University of Pittsburgh where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and Science graduating in 1954.

Michael served with the United States Marine Corps from 1950 until 1952 during the Korean War.

He first was a teacher at Leetonia High School in Ohio and returned to Connellsville and became employed as a Supervisor for the Pennsylvania Department of Health, later DER, where he worked for 33 years until retiring.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Connellsville.

Three brothers, Anthony Omatick, Peter Omatick, Frank Omatick, sisters, Ann Hoie, Kate Davey, Josephine Jordan, Angela Vinoski, Mary Shal, Stella Karpiak, and parents preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise Swink Omatick, with whom he observed their 50th wedding anniversary on February 1, 2003; a son, Michael James Omatick Jr. and wife, Josephine, and two daughters, Maribeth Tetil and husband, Dale, and Patricia Merendino and husband, Michael, all of Dunbar, Pa.; grandchildren: Kimberly Omatick, Erin Omatick, Michael James Omatick III, Emily Tetil, Elizabeth Tetil, Timothy Tetil, Sara Tetil, Abby Merendino, Adam Merendino, and Maria Merendino; and a sister, Julia Petrone and husband, Paul, of Connellsville, Pa.

Friends will be received at the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 East Green Street, Connellsville, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. where a Prayer Service will be held Tuesday, April 15, at 9:30 a.m.

A Funeral Mass follows at 10 a.m. in Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Connellsville, with Rev. Fr. John Butler as Celebrant.

Interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville, Pa.

A Parish Wake Service will be held today at 3:30 p.m.

Visitation was also held Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.
