Loretta J. Evans, 79, of Brownsville, Pa., died Wednesday, April 23, 2003, in Uniontown Hospital. She was born Sept. 21, 1923, in Adamsburg, Pa., daughter of the late Clay and Irene Smith Oplinger.

Loretta was a member of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church of Brownsville, Pa., and the Ladies’ Aid Society.

She and her husband were the former owners of Evans Market in Brownsville, Pa.

Surviving are her husband, Roy E. Evans; two daughters, Darlene Ferguson of Brownsville, Pa., and Shirley Madar and her husband, James of Eighty Four, Pa.; four grandchildren, Amy Ferguson, Kevin Madar, Tim Madar and Adam Madar; a brother, Henry Oplinger of Illinois; and four sisters, Ida Mae Herron of Oregon, Vera McDonough of Greensburg, Pa., Alice Hill of New York, and Linda Oplinger of Connellsville, Pa.

Friends will be received in the SKIRPAN FUNERAL HOME, 135 Park St., Brownsville, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m., and on Saturday until 11 a.m., the hour of service, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Pittavino officiating. Entombment will be in LaFayette Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
