The Southwestern Local Task Force will meet Thursday at 7 p.m. at Intermediate Unit 1, Coal Center.

Meetings scheduled
The Brownsville Area School Board has agreed to the following meetings:
On Tuesday, the education policy committee will meet at 5 p.m., and the building and grounds policy committee will meet at 6:30 p.m.
The finance policy committee will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 8.
The board will hold next month’s planning session and regular meeting Thursday, May 22, at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. All meetings will be held at the Hiller Elementary School board room.
Forum planned
MONESSEN – The Mon Valley NAACP will host a candidates’ forum Tuesday for candidates in Fayette, Westmoreland and Washington counties.
Candidates for county commissioner in all three counties have signed up to participate, as well as candidates in the Belle Vernon, Charleroi and Monessen school districts and state Superior Court.
The forum will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Mon Valley Health Center, Eastgate 8, in Monessen. Refreshments will be served. The forum is free to the public and the candidates.
Candidates invited
The Public Affairs Council of the Fayette Chamber of Commerce will hold a candidate forum for chamber members Tuesday, May 6, at 7 p.m. in the Swimmer Auditorium in the Williams Building, Penn State Fayette. The public is invited to attend.
Fayette County commissioner candidates on the ballot for the primary election who have agreed to participate in the strictly-timed forum will be allotted two minutes to introduce themselves and make a statement. They will then have three minutes each to respond to questions posed by members of the council. The questions will be based on a recent survey of issues important to the local business community.
Because of time constraints, a question and answer period with the audience will not be held, but members of the audience are encouraged to meet with the candidates after the forum if they wish to address issues of concern.

Calculator available
State Rep. Larry Roberts (D-South Union Township) urges his constituents to check out a calculator on the Web that will help determine if they benefit from Gov. Ed Rendell’s proposed tax plan.
Provided by the Rendell administration, the calculator is available at www.planforanewpa.com
under the “What the Plan Will Do For You” section. Users have to enter their county, school district, annual income and whether they rent or own a home. The calculator then will show the effect on the user’s taxes as well as how the user’s schools will benefit from the governor’s plan.
“I encourage everyone to use this calculator to get a sense of what kind of tax savings or increase you can expect under Gov. Rendell’s plan. It provides valuable information to help you decide whether the governor is proposing a reasonable investment to get Pennsylvania back on track,” Roberts said.
Roberts noted that constituents without access to a computer can still use the calculator by visiting either his Uniontown office at 31A Connellsville St. or his Connellsville office at 1402 Memorial Blvd. To make sure that a computer will be available, he asks that residents call the offices first before stopping by. Contributions sought
In recognition of National Garden Month, the Gibbon Glade post office will give away flower seeds to customers who make a contribution to the flower fund for the Gibbon Glade Triangle on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The plot of land, which lies at the junction of Canaan Church Road and Gibbon Glade Road, was adopted by resident Kas Hildebrandt, who along with Eagle Scout Shane Rishel cleared, mulched and planted on the land.
New flowers and mulch must be purchased every year, and postmaster Karen Reckard thought the seed giveaway would be an incentive to get the community to help with the upkeep of the plot and get a little something in return.

Southwestern Pennsylvania Water Authority will relocate fire hydrants in Tower Hill 2, Luzerne Township, Monday and Tuesday along Merrittstown Road, from Trailer Court road to Bull Run Road, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Customers in that area may experience an interruption of water service.
