Mary Feshanko Flenniken

Mary Feshanko Flenniken, age 86, of Carmichaels, Pa., died at 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2003 in the Greene County Memorial Hospital, Waynesburg, Pa., after residing at Precious Moments Personal Care Home in Carmichaels for the past three years. She was born August 26, 1916 in Pittsburgh, Pa., daughter of Stephen A. Feshanko and Helen Draga Feshanko.

Mrs. Flenniken was a member of First United Methodist Church of Carmichaels where she served as Treasurer for many years.

She was a longtime member of the former Lady Penn Rebekah Lodge No. 492 and was an avid bridge, poker and 500 player.

Mrs. Flenniken enjoyed her fellowship with her friends at the Carmichaels Senior Center and the St. Hugh Senior Activity Group where she was instrumental in arranging many bus tours for the seniors.

A resident of the Borough of Carmichaels all of her married life, she served as an elected official for the Borough of Carmichaels for 40 years in the capacity of Auditor, Election Board and Judge of Elections.

In 1983 she retired as Floor Manager for Gabler’s Drug Store in Carmichaels.

On July 22, 1936 she married Harleigh E. Flenniken. He died August 27, 1970. Before her marriage she resided in Besco (Clarksville), Pa.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Robert W. Flenniken, two grandchildren, a brother, Steven Alexander Feshanko, four sisters, Elizabeth Feshanko, Olga Bennett, Helen Shashura, Ann Thompson, and parents.

Surviving are a daughter, Linda Jeanne Klein and her husband, Bernard, of Purcellville, Virginia; a son, James L. Flenniken and his wife, Gisa, of Carmichaels; six grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; five step grandchildren; six step great grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Peters and her husband, Harold, of Baltimore, Maryland; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the YOSKOVICH FUNERAL HOME, Martin J. Yoskovich, Funeral Director, 300 South Vine Street, Route 88, Carmichaels, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. where Funeral Services will be held Monday, April 28, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Roger C. Saunders will officiate.

Interment will follow at Laurel Point Cemetery, Carmichaels.

Rather than flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to First United Methodist Church, 104 West South Street, Carmichaels, PA 15320, the Flenniken Memorial Library, 102 East George Street, Carmichaels, PA 15320 or a favorite charity.m
