Brownsville to host prayer vigil
BROWNSVILLE – The Brownsville Area Ministerial Association will observe the National Day of Prayer on Thursday. The group will host a prayer vigil in front of the borough building at Second and High streets in downtown Brownsville.
“The purpose is to pray for our leaders. The theme this year is ‘Righteousness exalts a nation,’ from Proverbs 14:34 – ‘Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people,'” said the Rev. Stanley Burdock of Christ Episcopal Church.
“In short, we’re praying for a revival.”
Rev. Burdock said the Brownsville prayer vigil will take place from 12:15 p.m. until 12:45 p.m.
“Anyone is welcome and encouraged to come. In the past we’ve had 10 to 15 people there,” Rev. Burdock said.
Rev. Burdock said the National Day of Prayer is held the first Thursday in May every year, with prayer events scheduled across the nation to pray for local, state and national leaders. Events will also be held in Uniontown and Connellsville and other communities in the area.
The National Day of Prayer will begin Wednesday evening with a candlelight prayer service at the gazebo in Confluence Park sponsored by the Turkeyfoot Bible club, Faithful Followers.
The Fayette County National Day of Prayer Committee will host its 10th annual prayer breakfast Thursday morning at 6 a.m. at the Uniontown Holiday Inn. The committee will also host a lunchtime prayer rally on the steps of the Fayette County Courthouse starting at 11:30 a.m.
The Connellsville Area Ministerial Association will also host a prayer rally starting at 11:15 at Veterans Plaza, outside City Hall.
The Uniontown Area Clergy Association will sponsor an all-day prayer event at Faith Assembly of God, 590 Morgantown Road. The church will be open for prayer from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m., when a special service will be held.
Additional services are scheduled at various other churches in the area.
