Bessie Smargie Mogush
Bessie Smargie Mogush, 85, of Masontown, Pa., died Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at 3:45 p.m. in Mount Macrina Manor, Uniontown, Pa. She was born June 11, 1918 in Masontown, daughter of Peter Smardzija (Smargie) and Anna Dokich Smargie.
She was a Sales Clerk at Kaufman’s Department Store in Uniontown with 37 years service in the Children’s Department.
Bessie was a member of The Circle of Serbian Sisters, St. George Serbian Church in Carmichaels, Pa., and Kolo of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church.
She was also a member of The Pals Club Ladies Auxiliary and Croatian Lodge No. 72, Uniontown, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Mogush in 1959, sisters, Martha Sweda and Sophia Zubovich, brothers, Melvin, Nick, Mike, Joseph and Robert Smargie, and parents.
Surviving are a brother, Pete Smargie Jr. and his wife, Dorothy, of Masontown, Pa.; and two sisters: Mary Vukelich of Akron, Ohio, and Rose Miscovich of Smithfield, Pa.
Friends will be received in the JOHN S. MAYKUTH JR. FUNERAL HOME, corner of Church at 7 River Avenue, Masontown, Pa., today, August 1, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
She will also Lay in State on Saturday, August 2, in St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, Carmichaels, Pa., from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Rodney Torbic as Celebrant.
Interment will follow in St. Mary (Nativity) Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa.
Visitation was also held Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Pals Club Ladies Auxiliary held Services in the Funeral Home on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
Placing of the Cross was held Thursday at 8:30 p.m.
