TURKEYFOOT VALLEY BAPTIST CHURCH announces services will be held at Jersey Church, located on Jersey Hollow Road, on Sunday, Aug. 10, at 7 p.m. Singers will be Tim Gosnell and Sam McClintock, accompanied by Loren Gosnell. This is the first established church in the Turkeyfoot area (1775). The first church meetings were held at the home of Moses Hall. The first church building was a two-story log building with a porch built in 1788. It was also used as a school house. The second building was built in 1838 and destroyed by fire. The third and present church was built in 1877. The church is open once a year. Many of the members are buried in the lower cemetery.

TOURS PLANNED: A tour to Ireland is planned for Sept. 7-17 and will include Shannon, Dublin, Knock and many other major areas of the Emerald Isle. The Rev. Edward McCullough, pastor of St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church in Dunbar, will be spiritual leader. A tour to Italy Oct. 12-21 will include attending the beatification of Mother Teresa of Calcutta. A tout to Guadalupe, Mexico, is planned for Dec. 1-7, departing from Pittsburgh. It will include visiting the Basilica of Our Lady and seeing the miraculous “tilma’ on which the sacred image is preserved.Participants will also see the Floating Gardens and the Pyramids.
