Earl Eugene Guess, age 88, of Uniontown, Pa., passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2003, in Uniontown Hospital. He was born April 2, 1915 in Uniontown, Pa., son of John Vernon Guess and Nellie E. Nieman Guess.

Earl was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Uniontown.

He was a Veteran of World War II who served with the United States Army in the European Theatre, retired Construction Foreman from West Penn Power with 44 years service, member of Fayette Lodge No. 228 F. & A. M. and also Uniontown Lodge of Perfection.

Earl was a Charter Member of Fort Necessity Lions Club.

His wife, Bertha G. Garlitts Guess, two brothers, Richard Guess and Thomas Guess, two sisters, Norma Guess and Dorothy Mintz, and parents preceded him in death.

He is survived by a brother, James Guess and his wife, Flora, of Uniontown, Pa.; two sisters: Linda Giunta of Euclid, Ohio, and Olive Guess of Snohomish, Washington; nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received in the JAMES D. BARNETT FUNERAL HOME, 196 West Main Street, Uniontown, Pa., on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, August 5, in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 71 North Gallatin Avenue, Uniontown, with the Rev. Paul N. Frank Jr. officiating.

Interment will follow in Christ Lutheran Cemetery, Chalk Hill, Pa.
