Mrs. Jane Hunger Tallman Heath

Mrs. Jane Hunger Tallman Heath, 90, of Augusta, Georgia, entered into rest on Wednesday, July 30, 2003 from Kentwood Nursing Facility, Augusta, Georgia. Born June 3, 1913 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the now late Arthur Hunger and Esther Dickey Hunger.

She was raised in Pennsylvania but had made Augusta her home for the past 52 years.

Mrs. Heath graduate from West Virginia University, Morgantown, West Virginia, and received a Masters Degree in Merchandising from the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pa., and a Masters Degree in Home Economics from the University of Georgia.

She organized an Adult Education Program in Home Economics in Augusta and taught there for 27 years.

After retirement, she attended classes at Augusta State University and, at the age of 85, she was recognized as the oldest student at ASU.

She was a member of Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church and a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.

She was married to Charles “Trusty” Tallman for 36 years and resided in Charleston, West Virginia, and also Richland, Washington, before moving to Augusta in 1951.

Ten years after the death of “Trusty” Tallman, she married Jerome Heath and they have been married for 20 years.

Survivors include her husband, Jerome Heath; a daughter, Martha Tallman Buck and her husband, Joseph Buck, of Appling, Georgia; a son, Dr. James Tallman and his wife, Gayle, of Marietta, Georgia; a stepson, Wayne Heath of Sudbury, Massachusetts; three stepdaughters: Sandra Timmerman of Augusta, Georgia, Cheryl Heath of Sudbury, Massachusetts, and Debbie Argo of Somerville, Tennessee; a brother, Dr. Arthur Hunger of York, Pa.; a sister, Lois Hunger of St. Louis, Missouri; a step niece, Barbara Chambless of Las Vegas, Nevada; 15 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2003 at 2 p.m. in Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church, Augusta, Georgia, with the Rev. Greg Hatfield officiating.

A Graveside Service will be held at a later date in her childhood home of Point Marion, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to United Methodist Children’s Home, c/o Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church, 1330 Monte Sano Avenue, Augusta, GA 30904.
